SAC Content Transport (Migration) Using CTMS

Different ways to transport SAC Content

SAC Provides three ways to transport your content from one tenant to another,

File System mode - In this method, using the menu option Transport > Export > File System, you create a package of your SAC content & its dependencies and download it to your local system in a .tgz file format, and import this .tgz file in your destination environment using the menu option Transport > Import > File System. This option is as simple as downloading from one location and uploading to another location.

Unleashing the Power of Custom Widgets in SAP Analytics Cloud

In today's world where data is crucial, it's really important to have analytics solutions that fit our business needs perfectly. With SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), we can create custom analytical applications that are just right for our needs. One cool thing we can do with SAC is develop custom widgets. These widgets help us add more functions to SAC beyond what it already offers. In this blog post, I'm excited to talk about my experience making a custom SAC widget using a JSON file.

Prerequisites:

  1. Proficiency in JavaScript and JSON: Custom widgets in SAC are developed using JavaScript and defined using JSON files. Ensure that you have a good understanding of these languages and their syntax.

Jupyter Notebook and SAP HANA: Persisting DataFrames in SAP HANA

Introduction

Jupyter Notebook or R are often the tools of choice for data scientists. It makes using data operations, data exploration and sharing convenient. SAP HANA is the database of choice for the most important businesses around the globe. Connecting both worlds, Jupyter Notebook and SAP HANA provides an incredible potential which needs to be seized.

SAP HANA

Jürgen Müller already provided a great blogpost about SAP HANA. I want to shortly formulate what SAP HANA is also with my own words. SAP HANA is an in-memory database which provides a lot of benefits, especially for analytical use cases. It connects different aspects of databases within one database. Besides typical properties of relational databases, it also delivers properties of NoSQL databases, like column-based databases. Depending on use-case, it is possible to activate or deactivate specific properties so that you can get the best performance out of your system.

Transforming Hierarchy using HANA Calculation view

Introduction:

This blog post is on usage of two powerful Nodes namely Hierarchy function and Minus Node in HANA Calculation view. Both Nodes are available in SAP HANA 2.0 XSA and HANA cloud.

Minus and Hierarchy function Node are available starting SAP HANA 2.0 SPS01 and SPS03 respectively for on premise and available in SAP HANA CLOUD version.

This use case will be helpful in business scenario where one wants to migrate from SAP BW 7.X to SAP HANA 2.0 XSA or SAP HANA Cloud. SAP BW is known for Data warehousing and strong reporting capabilities. While migration from SAP BW to SAP HANA 2.0 or SAP HANA cloud some of features are not available out the box. In this case HANA cloud is considered as backend for data processing and modelling purpose and Analysis for office for reporting.

Forecasting Intermittent Time Series with Automated Predictive (APL)

Starting with version 2203 of the Automated Predictive Library (APL) intermittent time series are given a special treatment. When the target value has many zeros, typically when the demand for a product or a service is sporadic, APL will no longer put in competition various forecasting models, but it will systematically use the Single Exponential Smoothing (SES) technique.

For SAP Analytics Cloud users, this functionality is coming with the 2022.Q2 QRC release in May.

Let’s take the following monthly quantity as an example.

Enabling Dynamic Fiscal filtering in SAC (BW Live)

At time of writing, SAP Analytics Cloud (Q4, 2021.20) does offer dynamic calendar-based time filtering. This enables users to quickly analyse data for periods such as Current Year, Quarter and Month to Date. The same functionality is also exposed when working with SAP BW Live models containing a 0CALDAY dimension.

The limitation is that for BW Live models, the platform has no awareness of Fiscal / Financial periods. SAC offers no native mechanism to dynamically present common reporting scenarios such as Financial Year to Date, or even just Current Financial Year. All dynamic options Calendar based only.

How to assign one Selection screen input field value into another field [ Not input ready] in SAP analytics report [ BW Query] using SAP HANA Exit

Prerequisite

During the development of any SAP analytical report, we may required to access one

selection screen variable value to be assigned to another selection screen variable.

So that the second variable will bring all the relevant information from the database.

Out of many, there is one scenario where users enter the value one selection screen field in the SAP analytics report. After input same value gets assigned into another selection screen field [ Not input ready]. See the below flow shows how the “ZVAR_WBS_HIER” value gets assigned into the “ZHE_WBS” variable.

Boost performance of SAP Analytics Cloud tables by using proper styling techniques

SAP HANA Exam Prep, SAP HANA Learning, SAP HANA Guides, SAP HANA Career, SAP HANA Tutorial and Material, SAP HANA Preparation, SAP HANA Study Materials

Does styling of my SAC table cause performance drawbacks?

In fact, every story designer can try out whether sophisticated styling is a performance driver of a table widget. Do the following to test whether performance issues of your table widget is caused by filthy formatting: Measure the performance of your table widget with styling and without styling and compare results. To remove all styling definitions of the table widget we can make use of table templates (figure 1) – switching the table template will prompt the story designer to eventually delete all styling definitions (figure 2) previously applied. In other words, styling will be reset after selecting a predefined template. Thereupon, we can use the refresh button at the toolbar to measure performance of the table widget without any applied styling. In case the table loads quicker without any formatting applied, this can be interpreted as a strong hint that previously applied styling definitions cause performance issues.

Blending Models with SAP Analytics Cloud

What is Blending?

Blending models lets you join a primary data source (such as ‘travel expenses’) with secondary data sources (such as ‘employee headcount’) that contain common linked dimensions (such as ’employee’). A new model is not created when you blend models, and the original models are not modified. Links between models that are blended only occur within a story. Blending can be done within individual tables and charts.

Some common uses for blending

◉ Comparing data of actuals from a corporate SAP source with plans stored from a non-SAP source.

◉ Comparing sales results against market benchmarks, or marketing campaign results available in .csv files, or data provided by a 3rd party consulting firm.

◉ Creating custom calculations based on key performance indicators from different data models like public census data.

◉ Using Smart Predict to output predictions in a dataset, and blend these predictions with other data sources, in the context of a story.
