What Is SAP HANA Streaming Analytics?
SAP HANA streaming analytics enables you to analyze high-volume, high-velocity data event streams to extract data. This post will introduce you to SAP HANA streaming analytics fundamentals.
Let’s get started with some basic information. Events are messages that are sent when something happens, for example, a stock price went up or a plane landed (too early, too late, or on time). Internet of Things (IoT) devices constantly send out messages, often in different formats, making processing these messages and generating alerts for exceptions difficult. Especially for the most interesting events (exceptions), the goal is to store this information in the database for further analysis to identify patterns, detect problems, and predict trends.

SAP HANA Data Strategy
Overview
As database and business analytics professionals we have always struggled with implementing the business’s conceptual data model and analytics strategy given the limitations of traditional database technologies. We understand the data and the many attributes that allow us to view the data from many angles, but the traditional database technologies did not allow us to create very wide tables and limited the number of ways we could access the data. These limitations then drove the models to have multiple copies of data summarized for specific use cases. All of these traditional database limitations lead us to create very complex models for solving quite straight forward problems. The complexity of the data models then created limited flexibility and tremendous latency.

New Video Tutorial Series: Studio and Cockpit
Some things are vintage and some things are just old. While we were digging through the archives, we found one of our older videos and decided to dust it off and give it an update. Who says something old can’t be new again? And speaking of new, if you’re starting to learn about streaming analytics and trying to figure out how to create, run, or test a project in studio, this is the perfect video for you.
Ready for more good news? Silly question, I know. That’s like asking if you want the last slice of pizza. Anyways, the good news is that this video is part of a tutorial series. So, after you’ve learned the basics of creating and working with projects in studio, you can then learn how to use cockpit to monitor those projects. The bad news? You’ll have to wait for the end of November for the second video to come out. You know the saying: good things come to those who wait!

Connecting Streaming Analytics to Design Studio
SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio supports connections to streaming analytics as a data source for your applications and dashboards. It connects to streaming via the Web Services Provider and provides your application with real-time data. Before you create the connection though, there are a few things to set up on the streaming side: you’ll need to confirm your WSP configuration info, set streaming permissions, and enable web services for your project.
