In this blog post, I am trying to bring 3 different concepts with SAP cloud offering and demonstrate how these are different from other. First, we will discuss about SAP HANA Enterprise cloud and then narrow down to discuss about SAP HANA Cloud platform to understand about cloud foundry environment and then we will further narrow down to understand SAP HANA Cloud database features and new innovations.
SAP HANA Enterprise cloud (HEC)

SAP HANA Cloud Platform / SAP Cloud Platform (HCP)
SAP HCP offers a platform-as-a-service (PAAS) tool intended for application development.
SAP Cloud Platform is an integration and extension platform for the Intelligent Enterprise that enables you to connect your landscape and create the application extensions based on business needs.
SAP Cloud Platform is SAP’s innovative cloud development and deployment platform running on multiple cloud infrastructure providers. The multi-cloud foundation supports multiple environments such as Cloud Foundry, ABAP and Kyma as well as multiple different regions and varieties in choice of programming languages.
Since HCP has moved to Cloud Foundry for the management of the development lifecycle using open source standards and micro services architecture. As XS Classic does not use Cloud Foundry, the customers with XS classic do not have the resources to develop the applications.
XS Advanced also uses Cloud Foundry architecture and so applications can be written once and deployed either on-premise or in cloud with no redevelopment.
SAP HANA has already moved to a micro services architecture, the applications are divided up into small chunks to allow the developer to choose the development language and there by result in elastic computing.
Below is the architecture of Cloud platform with cloud foundry environment, which allows creation of multi-target application as well as HANA artefacts using variety of language interfaces.
With newer SAP Cloud Platform, the official website also illustrates use cases involving Azure integration.
SAP HANA Cloud
SAP HANA Cloud is Database As A Service offering for the customers who want to more easily use the high speed of the in-memory database SAP HANA, use a relational data lake to handle larger amounts of data, and want to enjoy the benefits of the cloud such as low TCO and elasticity.
A cloud-native platform that offers the power and performance of SAP HANA with full capabilities to manage data storage, virtualization, and run powerful applications – where in you can bind HANA DB to applications which are running on SCP or elsewhere, .
With this you can migrate your existing assets to SAP HANA Cloud, especially for customers who are currently using SAP HANA on-premise.
The below diagram demonstrates the concept of HDI container, and a modeler can access the table from classical schema with the help of a synonym. From the application development point of view how we can bind our application to the HDI container.
So, this is one tool for both – modeler and UI5 developer to develop the model and applications making use of In-memory HANA database and a built-in data lake.
